Ingredients
•10 hot dogs
•10 hot dogs
•10 bamboo sticks
•1 c flour
•1 c cornmeal
•2 tbsp granulated sugar
•1 tsp salt
•1 c buttermilk
•2 tsp baking powder
•2 tbsp honey
•1 egg
•2 qt vegetable oil, divided
Directions
- Grab a large bowl and whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
- Next, add buttermilk, honey, egg, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the same bowl and whisk together and combine with the dry ingredients. Put bowl aside and let rest for 10 min.
- While batter is resting, heat remaining vegetable oil in a skillet or dutch oven - up to 350 degrees.
- If you’re wanting bites, cut hot dogs into bite size pieces. If you’re using the skewers, thread them and leave enough room to hold the bottom of the stick.
- Grab batter and stir/dip the hot dogs in. We just kinda winged this technique - it can be a little messy. Shake off excess batter.
- Gently drop into the oil and cook for 3-5 minutes. We did very small batches because they can burn easily.
- Serve with you fave condiments and enjoy!
